As many of you would be aware, there has been a move on behalf of some members of the Standards Australia Glass and Glazing Committee to have the use of 3mm clear glass in general glazing, removed.
Many leadlighters and glaziers around the country were concerned by this; 3mm glass is still a commonly used glass in glazing and many leadlighters use it also.
Our President Philip Parker was able to obtain an invitation to attend the Glass and Glazing Committee Meeting held in Melbourne on June 17th, and along with our industry representative on the Committee, David Wakeling, strongly presented our point of view to preserve the status quo, and exerted pressure to ensure this was considered by the Committee. The outcome was the one we wanted, with the current Standard for 3mm remaining in place for the time being.
The Australian Standards situation is one which we need to keep a constant eye on, and to address whenever a matter is raised that could be detrimental to our industry. The recognition of AGDA as our industry representative body by Standards and other government departments, is a huge asset in this ongoing situation.
